He welo noʻeau.

An inherited trait of being clever, skillful, wise, artistic, talented, expert.
Empowering innovation, honoring heritage.

Rooted in the vision of "he welo noʻeau," ʻŌlauniu honors both innovation and heritage. "Welo" speaks to lineage and legacy—a connection to the insights of those who came before us, shaping the path for those who will follow. This sense of continuity is woven into every aspect of ʻŌlauniu. By weaving traditional wisdom with modern innovation, ʻŌlauniu will be a vibrant space where culture and community thrive.

Our Approach: Placekeeping

ʻŌlauniu will transform this area into a modern day ʻāina momona by creating new opportunities and experiences for the people who live, work or play in Kapālama Kai and our broader communities.

Kamehameha Schools’ approach to ʻŌlauniu is rooted in Native Hawaiian culture and our commitment to nurturing ʻāina through placekeeping. Placekeeping means Kamehameha Schools views ʻāina development through an indigenous lens that helps honor the history of a place and perpetuate Hawaiian culture and knowledge. Furthermore, placekeeping enables Kamehameha Schools to reimagine how these special places can serve the lāhui now and into the future.

Stewarding ʻĀina Pauahi

As stewards of Ke Aliʻi Pauahi’s lands—and as a good neighbor and community partner—Kamehameha Schools is deeply committed to the resilience of our ʻāina and communities.

Through culturally grounded planning, regenerative practices, and strategic investment, we cultivate waiwai in all its forms—financial, ecological, cultural and spiritual—to ensure intergenerational prosperity and resilience.
